O profeta angolano despedaçado:
política e religião em Angola – o caso do tokoísmo (1946–2024)
Abstract
In this article, we will analyze the relationship between Politics and Religion through the study of Angola and Tokoism. The research focuses on four distinct moments of Tokoism: its emergence in the former Belgian Congo until the country's independence; the Leninist-Marxist policy pursued by the MPLA against the prophet Simão Gonçalves Tôko; Tôko's death, the dismemberment of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World and its near demise; and the association between the Universal Directorate and the MPLA after 2000. As sources, we will use those of the Angolan state media; those existing in CETOCO, many of a legal nature, but also communications made to the press; and reports of investigations carried out by the Portuguese Colonial State in relation to Simão Gonçalves Tôko and his Church. All these sources will be compiled using Max Weber, Karl Marx and Nicolau Machiavelli as theorists.
